Jane Austen was born in december, 16th, at night in Steventon house, Hampshire. There’s no necessity of a doctor, since it was really rare at that time to call a doctor e besides the local doctor is far 7 miles. Jane’s parents were really happy because a second girl was born, and she will be a present and company for Cassandra. Baby Jane was soon baptized by her father, as he did with all the children in the family. When the weather gets better she will be baptized in the church (it’s winter). Jane’s mother didn’t leave the bedroom for about two weeks. When Jane’s brothers and sister were allowed to enter in her mother’s bedroom, Jane was wealthy little girl, rounded face with fat chicks and black eyes! Everybody agreed she looked like her brother Henry.

The Parish Register for Steventon records Jane’s baptism on the day following her birth. The Register is in the Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, ref 71M82/PR2. Take a look here.

Jane Austen nasceu no dia 16 de dezembro, no comecinho da noite, na casa da paróquia de Steventon, Hampshire. Não houve necessidade de um médico, já que era raro chamar um naquela época e também porque o médico mais próximo estava a 7 milhas de distância. Os pais de Jane ficaram muito felizes por terem uma segunda filha, o que seria um presente para Cassandra (a única irmã de Austen) e seria sua companhia. A bebê Jane foi logo batizada por seu pai, como todas as crianças da família. Fariam a cerimônia na igreja mais tarde, quando tempo estivesse melhor. A mãe de Austen não deveria colocar os pés fora da cama por cerca de duas semanas. Quando as crianças finalmente foram autorizadas a entrarem no quarto onde Jane se encontrava, viram que o bebê tinha um rostinho redondo, bochechinhas gordas e negros olhos! Todos concordaram que ela se parecia com Henry, um dos irmãos.

    O que falar sobre Jane Austen? A Jane para mim foi muito mais do que os momentos maravilhosos em minhas leituras, conhecer Jane Austen foi mudar totalmente a minha vida! E pensar que se eu não tivesse parado para ver P&P, eu não teria conhecido pessoas tão maravilhosas e provavelmente não estaria fazendo letras! huahua
    Para mim é emocionante comemorar com janeites do mundo inteiro o aniversário da nossa mais do que querida Jane!

    Todos os anos tenho um ritual: em janeiro releio “Orgulho e Preconceito” – e lá se vão seis anos de frios na barriga e lágrimas de total felicidade e cumplicidade. São momentos mais que prazerosos – são nostálgicos e glamorosos, no bom sentido das palavras. Foi com a minissérie que eu fui introduzida no mundo de Jane Austen e, a partir de então, nunca mais saí. De longe é a minha autora mais querida e companheira. Parabéns Jane!!!

    Olá a todos os fãs da Jane Austen, no mundo.
    Eu comecei a conhecer pouco a pouco, através do filme Razão e Sensibilidade do diretor Ang Lee e a mini-série Orgulho e Preconceito com o ator Colin Firth cujos capítulos passaram (de uma vez) num domingo, na TV a cabo. Achei a mini-série maravilhosa e só então fui ler os respectivos livros. Mas, ainda não era fã.
    Um dia liguei a TV a cabo e comecei a assistir a um filme (não sabia o nome)e do meio para o final, eu tinha certeza absoluta que a história era da mesma autora…
    Só então me tornei fã de Jane Austen porque as histórias realmente me chamaram a atenção.
    Essas histórias de amor começam sutilmente, sem dar muito crédito de que irá realmente avançar, só com o desenrolar, já quase no final, os personagens descobrem que é realmente aquele grande amor que mudará para sempre as suas vidas…
    Todas essas histórias de amor enchem os nossos corações e nos trazem uma luz de esperança onde todos os casais viverão um grande amor que transmitirão aos seus filhos que se tornarão bons cidadãos que transformarão o mundo num lugar melhor para viver…

    Ah! o filme que vi na TV, depois descobri, era Persuasão… com Ciaram Hinds como Capitão Wentworth…

    Quando me perguntam porque amo Jane Austen, principalmente nas circunstâncias em que revelo o quanto a minha vida é mais feliz por causa de sua obra, eu respondo simplesmente: Jane Austen representa para o mundo literário o que Einsten representa para a Física.
